Captured in 1985, this historic portrait depicts Centers for Disease Control (CDC) physician and epidemiologist Martha F. Rogers, MD, a member of the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Class of 1981. During this period, Dr. Rogers worked with CDC’s AIDS Activity within the Center for Infectious Diseases, contributing to the agency’s early investigations of the emerging AIDS epidemic. Her work would include important studies of HIV/AIDS in women and children, including pediatric surveillance and mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
