This 1975 portrait depicted physician and epidemiologist Trenton K. Ruebush II, MD, who served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) officer with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). In 1975, Dr. Ruebush led an EIS investigation of human babesiosis on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, following the identification of six additional cases of the tick-borne parasitic disease. He subsequently continued his work at CDC in the study and control of parasitic diseases, including malaria and dracunculiasis, or Guinea worm disease.
