Caption:
Captured in a clinical setting, this photograph depicts a left lateral view of a female patient’s head and neck, highlighting a late syphilitic gumma that produced a deep ulcerative lesion in the temple region. The lesion began as several cutaneous nodules and, over a one- to two-week period, led to the formation of this ulceration. This pathology resulted from late (tertiary) syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection caused by the spirochete Treponema pallidum.
