Caption:
This image depicts a close superior view of a lesion on the head of a common bottlenose dolphin, Tursiops truncatus. The lesion was determined to be a case of lobomycosis, caused by the fungus Lacazia loboi, formerly known as Loboa loboi. Note the lesion’s rough, irregular texture and shape in comparison with the animal’s normal, smooth, gray-colored skin.
