Caption:
Captured during an autopsy, this image depicts the interior of a human cranium, having been exposed, subsequent to the reflection of the scalp, and the removal of the calvarium, or skullcap. In this superior view, you are looking down, atop the brain, at a point in the procedure, where the thickest of the meningeal coverings, the dura mater, was being reflected. By doing so, you are then able to note the purulent inflammation of the leptomeninges, which had been caused by a case of pneumococcal meningitis, in this alcoholic patient.
