This transmission electron micrograph (TEM) reveals the ultrastructural morphology of numerous feline leukemia virus (FeLV) particles, a retrovirus that infects cats. FeLV infection can cause serious and potentially fatal disease in cats and may be transmitted through prolonged close contact with infected animals, including exposure to saliva and other bodily fluids, as well as through bite wounds. Vaccination can help protect cats at risk of acquiring FeLV infection.
