Caption:
This 2004 photograph is the eleventh in a series of eighteen images depicting the paraphernalia, and steps to be followed, when a trained phlebotomist obtains a blood sample, by way of a venipuncture, using the contents of a Vacutainer® kit.
- Now that the vein had been punctured by the needle, and the Vacutainer® tube had been fully inserted into the needle canister, note how the venous blood was being drawn up, into the Vacutainer® tube. The technician should always observe universal safety precautions, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Keep the work areas clean, and well organized.
