Caption:
This photograph, taken in 1975, during the Rhodesian, now Zimbabwean, Marburg fever outbreak investigation, shows a Wankie, Zimbabwe roadside, which was a popular resting site among hitchhikers. This site was one of the locations where two hitchhikers, who were later treated for Marburg hemorrhagic fever, waited for a ride. Evidence indicates that the male traveler, referred to as Case #1, was bitten by an unknown vector at this location, however, no such vector was ever identified as being responsible for initiating this outbreak.
