This photograph depicts a two oviposition strips, sometimes referred to as ovipaddles. On the left was an ovipaddle composed of hardboard, and on the right, the ovipaddle was composed of velour paper. Oviposition strips, or ovipaddles, are used in order to encourage an ovipositor, or egg-layer, to lay her eggs upon substrates that are not normally used by these organisms for oviposition. For further study, eggs, or ova, may then be easily extracted from the environment. Note that the eggs had been deposited on the velour paper at the right, and appear as small black oblong particles.
