This 1979 photograph taken in New Orleans, Louisiana, depicted a mosquito light trap, especially designed to attract, and trap Aedes aegypti mosquitoes for analysis. Mosquito light traps like this one, trap these insects in order that a field study may be conducted that will determine the quantitative, and qualitative demographic makeup of local mosquito populations. With such knowledge, control of these potential public health nuisances is possible, which is quite necessary, especially in regions where arboviral vector-borne illnesses are prevalent.
