Caption:
This photomicrograph revealed the presence of what is known as a ferruginous body, in a section of lung tissue. In this case, a fiber of asbestos, or a related substance, had been coated by an iron-protein complex, and then surrounded by macrophages. This specimen was processed, using a Prussian blue iron stain.
