Caption:
Under a magnification of 3012X, this scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image revealed ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the microscopic debris that was attached to the exoskeletal surface of an unidentified insect. These particulates were predominantly vegetative matter, including pollen granules, and disintegrated plant tissues. Also, note the sensorial hair, known as a seta, in the lower right. These setae are not really hairs, but extensions of the exoskeletal exterior, and are composed of the same material, known as chitin.
