This historic 1968 photograph depicted Penny Gentry, a National Communicable Disease Center (NCDC) laboratorian, as she was inoculating 10-day old embryonated chicken eggs with specimens that were suspected of containing the Influenza virus. The NCDC (1967-1970) was one of the forerunners of the more contemporary Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which was officially named in 1992.
