Caption:
This historic 1926 photograph depicted the interior of an unsanitary barn, that might have typically been found in rural Minnesota. This study focused on an outbreak of bovine mastitis, which became a public health concern, due to the fact that mastitis can increase levels of harmful bacteria in milk supplies. This was one of a series of instructional images used by the Minnesota Board of Health to train state public health workers, and the training was focused on the protection of Minnesota livestock, and animal husbandry.
