Caption:
Magnified 1094X, this scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image revealed the presence of a mites from the genus, Nanorchestes, which was highly festooned with an adornment of chitinous exoskeletal outcroppings. Under higher magnifications, i.e., PHIL 8808, 8809, these exoskeletal complexities reveal their diaphanous majesty. Members of this genus, are free-living, fungivorous soil and leaf-litter/moss mites that in this case, being found on this lizard's skin, was simply an incidental finding.
