From 1950, this historical photograph was provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Reprinted from the January, 1951, “Industrial Hygiene Newsletter”, it depicted the exterior case of a vapor monitoring device. The device was a Midget Impinger™ pump. A stopwatch sat to the left, atop the apparatus case. Impingers are tubes, usually made from glass, or fluoropolymer material, and are designed to collect airborne hazards, by bubbling collected gas samples through a liquid medium, which was then analyzed for the presence of deposited contaminants.
