This historic image, provided by the Center for Disease Control's (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), depicted an industrial worker, who was in the process of manufacturing soap, and was returning a batch of soap to a large kettle in order to continue the purification process. Note that the man, though wearing a protective face mask, was not wearing any gloves, or filtered a breathing mask, which are accessories that today, are readily recommended based on research studies focused on improving worker safety in the workplace environment.
