Caption:
This historic 1950 image, provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), depicted a technician in the process of manipulating radioactive material while using metallic extension tongs, thereby, keeping him at a safe distance from the potentially dangerous material. Without knowing the possible level of contaminants expelled from the radioactive substance, wearing only a white jump-suite, may or may not have been what today would be deemed adequate protection against contamination.
