Caption:
This image depicts a nurse measuring the blood pressure of a female ordnance worker in the hospital dispensary of the Ravenna Ordnance Plant in Ravenna, Ohio. During World War II, the plant manufactured ordnance containing trinitrotoluene (TNT) for military use. The photograph was made during industrial hygiene and engineering activities conducted by personnel of the U.S. Public Health Service at the plant in September 1943. Occupational safety and health concerns included preventing dermatitis among workers, and reducing the risk of explosions within the plant. The original caption of a related photograph states, “Every three weeks TNT workers receive blood count and check of blood pressure”.
