Caption:
This photograph was captured by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) team member, and EIS Officer, Heidi Soeters, PhD, MPH, during Guinea’s 2014, Ebola outbreak, and depicts a World Health Organization (WHO) staff member, who was also deployed to the West African region, as he was conducting a class in how to properly don personal protective equipment (PPE). The Guinean healthcare worker at right had dressed in a PPE uniform, which included disposable head covering, a transparent face shield, facemask, disposable shirt, apron, and gloves, and though not visible here, rubber boots. The Guinean woman in the middle was reading from a manual, instructing the healthcare worker as he was dressing. She in turn, was being overseen by the WHO instructor on the left, who appeared to be correcting her instructions. The seriousness of correctly wearing appropriate PPE cannot be overstated.
