The NHANES program suspended field operations in March 2020 due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. As a result, data collection for the NHANES 2019-2020 cycle was not completed. NCHS has made publicly available the data from survey components that were only collected in 2019-March 2020 as convenience samples, because unbiased estimates for the NHANES target population cannot be produced with these samples. The initial release does not contain all the data collected from the convenience samples. Additional survey component files are undergoing data processing and quality assessment review. As these processes are completed, there will be additional data files available and posted on the What's New page.
Similar to other datasets produced from continuous NHANES since 1999, data for the interview, laboratory, and examination components of the 2019-March 2020 convenience samples are made available in numerous files to facilitate ease of use and access. Due to disclosure concerns, these data are not available publicly. Access may be obtained through the NCHS Research Data Center (https://www.cdc.gov/rdc). Please refer to the documentations on the Limited Access Data page for additional information on the available datasets.
Please note that the 2019-March 2020 convenience sample data release is limited to survey components only collected in 2019-March 2020. For survey components conducted in both 2017-2018 and 2019-2020 cycles, data collected from 2019 to March 2020 were combined with data from 2017 to 2018 to form a nationally representative sample of NHANES 2017-March 2020 pre-pandemic data and are available at the NHANES 2017-March 2020 pre-pandemic data web page for public access.
